Feeling Warm & Fuzzy

Just finished doing a storytime at the library, which is a rare treat for me. As the resident jack-of-all-trades and filler-in-of-absences, I only get to do storytime when the regular storytime person can't be there. (And, on occasion, I've been known to do an impromptu storytime when people who didn't know it was cancelled show up anyway and I feel bad for them.)

Doing storytime always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. I usually end up doing the 3-5 year-old storytimes, and they're always so excited to be here! In addition to reading stories, there was an Easter egg hunt and we did an Easter-themed version of the Hokey-Pokey (The Bunny Pokey!). Watching the kids putting their "bunny noses" in and "hopping all about" was the freaking cutest thing!

It's been awhile since I've actually gotten to plan my own storytime, but I think my dream storytime would involve reading "Hooway for Wodney Wat" and bringing in one of my pet rats to meet the kids.

How adorable would that be? Except of course I'd be worried that parents might freak out that I was bringing in "vermin" for their kids to play with. *sigh* Rats are so misunderstood.

I've kind of been slacking on jewelry stuff lately... I have a pretty decent inventory of finished products built up, and I have a craft show on April 9 (Hanover Shopping Night at Hanover Elementary School, 5:00-8:00pm!). I've heard it's a pretty good one, so I'm looking forward to it. I'll also be at the Warren County Bazaar and Food Fest in Washington, NJ on April 24. That'll be my first outdoor show, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for nice weather!

Happy Spring!!

The weather this weekend was so gorgeous!

My husband and I took some time to do some work on the outside of the house this weekend. Our back yard is still kind of a mess, since the previous owners HAD a vegetable garden but it was really overgrown, and much bigger than the garden we want to put in. So Glen cleared out that area and scatter some grass seed over it. At some point either this year or next we'll build a small vegetable garden over part of the area.

No, it's not just your imagination, part of the roof is falling off of our shed.

We also cleared out all the weeds that started growing under the weeping cherry out back. There are some legitimate flowers that grow under it, but it's hard to separate them from all the weeds, so we cleared it out altogether (with the exception of some of the wild strawberries) and will plant new stuff there. I'd like the just buy a seed mix and scatter it under there and make it a garden for cutting flowers to put in the house.

See Elvis' butt exiting the frame on the right-hand side of this picture?

I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of the fish in our pond survived the winter. The pond was filled with leaves and I just of assumed the fish had all died, but I saw two of them swimming around as I walked past, so I took the net and started pulling leaves out. In the process, I managed to scoop up a little frog, which I promptly picked up and proudly carried over to Glen, because when it comes to creepy-crawlies I have the mentality of a 7-year-old boy. ;-)

Still so many leave to clean up around the pond!!

Also on the agenda: put down a stone path around the side of the house. Elvis runs laps around our house and there's a path that he wore down from around the front of the house around to the pond in the back. We want to put down flagstones along that path, because it will be easier than trying to maintain grass, and hopefully the stone will help to wear Elvis' nails down so we won't have to clip them as often. ;-)

Gratuitous puppy picture.

On some jewelry-related notes:
  • My next craft show will be on April 9 at Hanover Elementary school, 5:00-8:00pm.
  • The gym I go to, Go Figure, is now carrying my jewelry!
  • I'm currently running a promotion through Our City Lights - stop by Diana's blog to get a coupon code for my Etsy shop! (And also stop by her amazing Etsy shop!)

Overwhelmed? Me? Nah!

My schedule this past week:

Saturday: Craft show, go to Glen's show at Diamonz.

Sunday: Pick up bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in, go to my cousin's baby shower, go to a friend's house to watch the Oscars.

Monday: Work at the courthouse for 8 hours, go to the gym, band rehearsal at night.

Tuesday: Work all day again, take a short nap, work on some jewelry stuff for the remainder of the evening.

Wednesday: Courthouse 8:15 - 4:15, debate going to the gym, decide against it, photograph some jewelry, see Glen's show at the Wardell.

Today: Work 8:45 - 2:45, take two hours off from my day job to photograph a whole bunch more jewelry, come to the library (where I am now) and work 5-9. Giving myself a little break and snuggling with the husband, the puppy and the critters and watching tv when I get home.

Tomorrow I'm working at the courthouse for a full day, finishing the dreaded taxes (just have to do my home office deduction stuff and I'm done!!), going to dinner with my mom and my fake aunt (my mom's friend), hopefully going to the gym, getting stuff ready for craft show #2 of the year.

(Speaking of which, that's at Northampton Community College from 9:00am -3:00pm this Saturday, March 13!)

So yeah, craft show Saturday, then going straight from the craft show down to Hamilton, NJ for a ladies' night with some dear friends from college.

Needless to say, I won't be accomplishing much on Sunday, but I feel like I'll have earned it.

Sorry for the lack of pictures today, but check my Etsy shop next week, there will be lots of photos to go with all of the new listings I'll be putting up! :-)

Why on Earth Am I Awake?!?!

For some inexplicable reason, I woke up at 5:30 this morning. This wouldn't be too terribly remarkable if I'd had a relaxing weekend and/or gotten to bed before midnight last night, but neither of those things happened.

I was at a craft show all day Saturday (it was a bit of a disappointment, hardly any customers, boo), then went to see my husband do stand-up that night.

Oh, and best thing about making jewelry when it comes to going to craft shows: not very bulky to pack up. This is my jewelry, all of my supplies, and all of my display stuff, all ready to go on Saturday night:

I finally remembered to take a picture of my table all set up:

Fairly basic, I know. I'm still trying to think of more creative ways to display my pieces. So far the only thing I have to set me apart from other jewelry makers is the strip of purple fabric along the back of my table, but I'm kind of stuck as far as what else I can do. So any suggestions or creative criticism is both welcome and much appreciated!

Yesterday I had to run out to the David's Bridal in Allentown to pick up a dress for a wedding I'm in, and straight from there went to my cousin's baby shower. I was home for less than an hour when my husband and I left to go to a friend's house to watch the Oscars. Didn't get home til a little after midnight.

Productive evening, too! I brought my beading supplies and make a couple of necklace and earring sets.

And lo and behold, I am wide awake after only 5 hours of sleep. Let Elvis out already, coffee's brewing, maybe I'll even have time to make egg and cheese sandwiches before work!

Announcement!

It's kind of late and I'm really tired, and tomorrow's a library day, which means I'll be working for 12 straight hours, so this post is going to be a short one.

I'll be selling my jewelry at a craft show in Bethlehem, PA this Saturday!

It's at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish on 617 Pierce St. from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

If you're in the Lehigh Valley, stop by and say hello!

Now it's time for me to put on pj's, make some hot chocolate and snuggle with my puppy on the couch while I wait for my husband to get home from another night of doing stand-up comedy.
