Expanding My Business

I've added a new product to my business!

Or at least I will soon.

Last week I got a request from a fellow employee for a custom lanyard for her ID badge. She had purchased one from a store awhile back, but it was dark colors and she wanted something lighter for summer. I designed one with little silver glass beads, freshwater pearls, and silver-plated filigree beads, it came out even better than I'd hoped! But of course I am a dope and didn't take a picture before I gave it to her, so I can't show you want it looked like.

I bring some of my inventory into my day job periodically so folks can look through it and purchase pieces or order custom jewelry (I often get requests for a design similar to what I've already made, but with a different type of bead or metal), so from now on I plan on including lanyards in the mix.

I also need to get my butt in gear on recycling some jewelry. Since I started my business, a few people have donated old and/or broken jewelry so I can use the parts for new jewelry. I haven't gotten around to doing anything with the pieces yet, but I hope to soon.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but hopefully in the near future I'll have photos of lanyards and some new old jewelry to share. ;-)

In the meantime, I'll share a website I just learned about: craftMBA.com

I just came across it a couple of hours ago, and I've already subscribed. Lots of great advice, I can't wait to read more!

  3. Finally getting back to you on that blogging thing! Thanks for your comment, but the way. I think the problem is when we start comparing ourselves to other bloggers who do "prettier" things. I know for me it can cause a lot of self-doubt... then again, like you said, I know I don't put as much time or effort into my blog [either because I don't have it or I don't care to]. Haha, I don't even know if there's a solution, except to stop stressing about it and just blog whatever/whenever I want. I really overthink things sometimes!

  4. Stephanie, I have some vintage beads from a necklace that broke ages ago (they were from a necklace that was my grandmothers, I guess that would be your great aunt?), and I kept saying that I wanted to get it redone to a more modern piece. I will have to bring them home with me so I can pass them along through my mom! I like the recycle idea! Very green of you :)
