Expanding My Business

I've added a new product to my business!

Or at least I will soon.

Last week I got a request from a fellow employee for a custom lanyard for her ID badge. She had purchased one from a store awhile back, but it was dark colors and she wanted something lighter for summer. I designed one with little silver glass beads, freshwater pearls, and silver-plated filigree beads, it came out even better than I'd hoped! But of course I am a dope and didn't take a picture before I gave it to her, so I can't show you want it looked like.

I bring some of my inventory into my day job periodically so folks can look through it and purchase pieces or order custom jewelry (I often get requests for a design similar to what I've already made, but with a different type of bead or metal), so from now on I plan on including lanyards in the mix.

I also need to get my butt in gear on recycling some jewelry. Since I started my business, a few people have donated old and/or broken jewelry so I can use the parts for new jewelry. I haven't gotten around to doing anything with the pieces yet, but I hope to soon.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but hopefully in the near future I'll have photos of lanyards and some new old jewelry to share. ;-)

In the meantime, I'll share a website I just learned about: craftMBA.com

I just came across it a couple of hours ago, and I've already subscribed. Lots of great advice, I can't wait to read more!

New Website!!

I'm super excited to announce that Mischievous Kitty Jewelry finally has a new, pretty website thanks to my wonderful cousin Heather!

Check it out, then go visit Heather's website and take a look at the gorgeous invitations she designs!!

I know I've been awful about posting new pieces in my Etsy shop, but I'm going to do my best to get some new stuff listed by the end of the week!

Still Here

I promise, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth! The past week has just been so busy and exhausting.

I spent all day Friday at my day job, then went straight to a craft show for the evening, followed by a drink and some nachos at Loopers with one of my best friends.

Did a whole bunch of gardening all day Saturday, and my husband got home from his road trip that night, had sushi for dinner because we were both too tired to cook.

Got a little relaxing in on Sunday, spent the evening at Glen's parents' house, but before and after that I had to run errands. Had to pick up jewelry stuff, painting stuff and people food, and I finally painted the trim around the side door in our dining room.

In addition to my regular work schedule, I had a band rehearsal Monday night and spent last night at the Wardell for the comedy open mic.

And tonight I'm working at the library til 9. Apparently the library is the place to be tonight. The computers are full and I've been getting a ton reference questions in person and over the phone.

Nights like tonight make me especially upset that Gov. Christie is proposing such deep cuts in the library budget. So seriously, if you live in NJ and want your library to keep internet access, interlibrary loans and electronic databases, contact the governor to oppose the extent of the cuts. You can learn more and contact your Representative here.

On a less serious note, how fun is this chair??

I really want to get some of them to use as extra chairs in our dining room, since the folding chairs we use as spares right now aren't terribly attractive. But I don't know if I can bring myself to spent $100 a piece for chairs that wouldn't even be used very frequently. Perhaps I'd be better off scouring thrift stores in search of a better deal... Decisions, decisions...

When the Husband's Away...

The wife will make delicious eggplant parmigiana!

He normally won't touch anything with eggplant, but I love it, so the bright side to Glen being away on a road trip with Eric is that I can make eggplant parm for dinner (and lunch tomorrow... and probably dinner again) without feeling guilty.

Seriously though, I do miss him. And not just because our dog keeps trying to wrestle with me in his absence. It'll be nice to have him back soon, even if it means I won't be able to make anything that involves eggplant for awhile. ;-)

Oh, and he sent me this tonight. It made me smile and I thought I'd share:

Seriously, the new season of Mad Men can't come soon enough!!

Obligatory Flower Pictures

Spring is definitely springing here in my neck of the woods! I feel like everyone is posting flower pictures lately, so while this post is completely unoriginal in its content, I felt the need to be one of the cool kids and show off what's growing in my yard at the moment. ;-)

The weeping cherry is about to burst into bloom!

The lone hyacinth under the cherry tree.
Need to plant some more flowers under there. And pull up some weeds.

Wild strawberries by the pond!

Clematis by the back patio.
We have a total of 6 of these throughout the yard, all different varieties.
Can't wait for the flowers to bloom, but in the meantime the vines are growing like crazy.

On a non flower-related note, I had some of my best girlfriends from high school over for brunch this morning. French toast, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt with granola, and many, many mimosas. Yummy. :-)

6 days til my next craft show!
